From AWR, Minister Syahrul Hoped the Young Farmers Are Educated in Technology

Agricom.id, JAKARTA - Ministry of agriculture did webminar Milenial Agriculture Forum (MAF) III through video teleconference, Wednesday (17/6). The goal is to realize the modern agriculture by the millennial farmers in every region in Indonesia.

In the chance, Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo said that it is the time for the agriculture to get in the new era in online approach and artificial intelligence. He thought that the intervention in the new agriculture should be done so that Indonesia could be independent and sovereign.

“In this era, the startup and robot construction are parts of the agriculture. The digital system is the new approach in the future agriculture,” he said in the Agriculture War Room (AWR).

Ministry of agriculture has prepared kredit usaha rakyat (KUR) within small interest rate, reaching 6 percent so that it could be advantaged well by the millennial farmmers.

He also thought that the young generations could be the successful farmers by advantaging the available facilities and helps. Then they could have motivation to make new idea and creative innovation. “Within the research and technology capability we have, the modern agriculture could run well,” he said.

In the same spot, Head of Badan Penyuluhan dan Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia Pertanian (BPPSDM), Dedi Nursyamsi emphasized that it is important to regenerate the farmers for the better sustainable agriculture. He thought that the numbers of the farmers in Indonesia have been about 33 million. But 27 percent only of the young farmers do farming.

“We have to notice that it could be in the next ten years, there would be crisis of farmers,” he said.

For information, ministry of agriculture targeted to make 2,5 million millennial farmers for the next five years. It is done to realize the long term program of the government and ministry of agriculture is in cooperation with other ministry and university.

“Our main focus is the millennial farmers because they are well educated with technology and information. This is our modal to develop the millennial agriculture in the future,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Director of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Arif Satria told that the sustainable education plays the role to accelerate the entrepreneurship transformation process to get the millennial farmers.

He did hope that the young generations could be living in the villages as the new stakeholders. This would encourage the farmers’ regeneration better.

“We have to prepare the regeneration immediately and well. If not, we would not be ready to compete in the future,” he said. (A2)
