Agricom.id, JAKARTA - Ministry of agriculture predicted that the sugar production might increase in this year. The sugarcane planted by the farmers might too than it in last year.

Director of Seasonal Plant and Spices, General Directorate of Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Hendratmojo Bagus Hudoro said that the increasing sugar production prediction is from the midterm taxation which increases in this year.

Bagus also mentioned that the climate which is relatively good is one factor supporting the sugar production in 2020.

“The increasing sugar production prediction in this year is based on the midterm taxation result. It may increase,” Bagus said in Jakarta, Wednesday (21/10/2020) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

Besides, he continued, the midterm taxation productivity in this year could be 69,71 tons per hectare or bigger than it in last year which was 67,39 tons.

The crystal sugar production calculation in August 2020 reached 895.952 tons. By the end of this year, the total production could be 2,224 million tons.

The sugarcane areas in this year may lay about 413.186 hectares within the average yield about 7,7 percent nationally.

"It is the time to harvest sugarcane until November 2020," Bagus mentioned.

In some events, Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo emphasized that his side keeps maintaining food security including sugar by increasing every production so that Indonesia would be in full sovereignty.

“We prioritize that the food security should be powerful to fulfill the people’s needs. In the future, it is possible to do export,” Syahrul said. (A2)
