Agricom.id, JAKARTA – Heading to the 2021, Ministry of Agriculture Indonesian Republic ensured that the food stocks, namely rice are in control. The stock of rice would be abundant because of the massive harvests some time ago.
“The most concentrated program in the Covid-19 pandemic is the preparation for rice in 2020 to 2021,” Minister of Agriculture, Syharul Yasin Limpo told in the fifth Food Security Summit (JFSS), Wednesday (18/11/2020) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.
He thought that the rice production in January - November reached 31 million tons. the rice consumption in 2020 would be 20 million tons. It means, he continued, there would be stocks about 7 million tons and it is enough for the consumption in the early of 2021.
“The early stock of rice was from 5,9 million tons and we did 1st and 2nd planting. Insya Allah our rice is in control,” SYL said.
He also mentioned that his side is focusing to accelerate the 1st planting which runs in October 2020 to March 2021, though la nina is a threat.
"We are optimist that there would be 18,5 million tons of rice in January – June 2021, within the stocks for about 18,5 million tons added by overstocks about 7 million tons, the consumption about 15 million, the stock of rice in June 2021 would be 9 million tons," he said.
Chairman of Indonesian Chambers and Industry, Indonesian Republic, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani thought that the agricultural development in Indonesia runs well enough. his side encouraged the synergy among the institutions and ministries better to realize the food security in pandemic and after pandemic.
“To realize and develop the food sectors, every stakeholder should develop the best strategies and make the same agreement to develop the agriculture, namely after pandemic,” he said. (A2)
