Agriculture is the Big Power to Employment

Agricom.id, JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that the agriculture is the big power to provide employment in the future. Hardly half of the world population is in Asia, including China, India, and Indonesia.

President Jokowi thought that this would indirectly give big chances to market access in Asia and in the world. He hoped that the food sector could be developed as soon as possible namely to respond to the possibility of food crisis because of pandemic and the increasing population in the world that implicates to the food needs.

“We have to make leaps in the latest ways within bigger production scale and the central role is in the farmers’ corporate. It needs to prioritize the added values in on farm or off farm, in more efficient and productive modern technology,” Jokowi said when opening the 5th Jakarta Food Security Summit (JFSS) in 2020 some time ago, as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

He also told that Covid 19 pandemic should the right moment to open the bigger market chance. The businessmen and the stakeholders in food should leave the old fashion – paradigm and go forward to the new ways.

“Developing the food sectors needs new and innovative ways to increase the efficient production, get the qualified food in economic price, improve the environmental supports and welfare the farmers,” he said.

Knowing this, Ministry of Agriculture Indonesian Republic has long term program called Gerakan Tiga Kali Ekspor (Geratieks) as the acceleration to increase the exports nationally by involving every stakeholder.

Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) in many chances told that the businessmen and stakeholders play the important roles to give employment widely.

“Talking about exports means we talk about the employment expansion. This is the concentration of the government that the people could get the advantages from the exports,” he said.

SYL thought that it is right to give employment knowing that livestock has bigger chance namely if the export activity is done by prioritizing the quality of products.

“The chance could be seen from the upstream to downstream sectors. In this case the exports should seriously compete by preparing the selling products. It means that we have to maintain the quantity but the quality should be the same with others,” he said.

As the export strategy, Ministry of Agriculture would detect the market needs whole over the world that could be chances for Indonesia to export the global needs.

“We would cooperate to increase the exports with Ministry of Trade and other businessmen in Indonesia. We could know what the world needs of,” he said. (A2)
