Ministry of Agriculture Focuses to Guarantee Food for the People

Aggricom.id, JAKARTA – Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo suggested that the governors, majors, regents should pay attention to the food availability in their regions. This is important to guarantee the food because the world is disturbed by corona virus.

“Stop doing politics. Stop your status. Please think of the people, make sure that their food is available. I am ready to help if you (the regional leaders) need help,” he said when attending the coordination meeting, Dewan Ketahanan Pangan in Hotel Bidakara Jakarta, Tuesday (10/3/2020).

He thought that in this situation, every element, and the stakeholder should make sure the food needs nationally are well controlled. The world trade is decreasing up to 17 percent.

“Once more, please, let us struggle together,” he said, as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

He also told that if the economy gets decreasing, it is possible that there would be shut down slowly. The industries in the world may reduce the production and would fire the workers in the big scale.

“As the government, we have to be serious to this issue. make sure that the micro economy runs well from one market to the others though from our data, we have enough rice, and others are too,” he said.

“Do not make other psychological burdens for the country. Do not let the chilly gets more expensive, from Rp 25 thousand to be Rp 80 thousand," he said.

On the other hand, he also support what the police has done too give the effect to those who intentionally increase the price or pile up the food materials.

“If there are piles (of the materials), I would ask for the Chief of Indonesian Police. Everyone would work. Do not let the public panic that may make panic buying. One thing for sure, we would do the best, starting from thee needs until the domestic production,” he said. (A2)
