Agricom.id, BALI – Bali is one of several provinces in Indonesia where the corona virus (Covid-19) hits. Many sides worry about the bad impact of economy from the virus. The lethargic tourism in Bali which is the main source of economy for the people multiplies the concern of Balinese people. Learning from the tragedy of bomb Bali, in this situation, the agriculture is the main source to fulfill the people’s food needs.

According to Head of Badan Pengkajian Teknologi Pertanian (BPTP) Bali, I Made Rai Yasa, since the government published the policy ‘Work from Home’ (WfH) to control the spread of Covid-19, the farmers in Bali keep working to maintain the food needs for the people. Based on the reports, in some districts in Bali, the farmers are in harvest now. Based on what the field officers’ report, Sunday, (29/3/2020) they would harvest 347 hectares of the potential, 461 hectares of paddy fields.

"While the medical officers and the people fight for stopping the spread of Covid – 19, the farmers in Bali are also fight for the food security for all of us,” he said, as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

Some districts which are ready to harvest paddy are District of Buleleng, precisely in Subak Banyuning, Village of Banyuning, Sub district of Buleleng. In the 2 hectares, the paddy to harvest is Ciherang within the productivity 6,5 tons/hectare. The paddy to harvest is in Subak Munggu, Village of Munggu, Sub district of Mengwi, District of Badung within about 230 hectares, from the potential about 240 hectares. The variety is Cigeulis within the productivity 6,5 tons/hectare in average. 

Besides District of Buleleng and District of Badung, the farmers in District of Jembrana and District of Klungkung would too. Precisely in Subak Spa Selatan, Village of Pengambangen, Sub district of Negara, District of Jembrana, they would harvest Ciherang for about 5 hectares, of the potential 60 hectares. Based on the tuber, the productivity could be 9,3 tons/hectare.

Meanwhile the farmers in Subak Gunaksa, Village of Gunaksa, Sub district of Dawan, District of Klungkung, they have harvested the paddy from the 110 hectare area of the potential reaching 129 hectares. The paddy is Ciherang, within the productivity about 8 tons/ha.

The latest report in District of Tabanan which is the rice production center in Bali, there would be harvest in Subak Bengkel, Village of Bengkel, Sub district of Kediri.  It is the  Ciherang. The areas to harvest cover about 25 ha of the potential reaching 330 ha within the productivity reaching 7,5 tons/ha. (A2)
