Agricom.id, JAKARTA – The method of kerangka sampel area (KSA) done by central bureau of statistic (CBS) predicted that the agriculture sector in Indonesia would be in massive harvest in April to May 2020.

The government through ministry of agriculture claimed to be ready to buy (absorb) the grain produced by the farmers and in synergy with the milling and online transportation (gojek) to distribute the food materials.

Knowing this, the professor of agriculture, Universitas Gajah Mada, Prof Masyhuri told that the attention of ministry of agriculture to the massive harvest is part of empowering the economy through the villages.

“Namely, when the economy gets reducing because of the corona virus (Covid-19) that Indonesia and other countries should face. The villages would empower the (economy of) our nation,” he said, Saturday (4/4/2020) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

He also told that it is the better thing to do to depend on the farmers when the crisis hits than ministry of agriculture thinks to import the foods.

“For all these years, the groups of farmers could only survive when the crisis (of economy) hit (s) Indonesia. If ministry of agriculture absorbs (buys) the massive harvest produced by the farmers, this would empower the economy in the villages and nationally,” he said.

Masyhuri also thought that the commitment of ministry of agriculture to buy the harvest could be the base to create the big country because the target is to empower the strong economy in the villages and the farmers.

For information, the result of KSA CBS predicted that there would be surplus of rice from the massive harvest in April reaching 5,2 million tons and in May 2020 reaching 3,8 million tons . (A2)
