Agricom.id, JAKARTA – General Director of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture, Prihasto Setyanto is optimist that the vegetable and fruit produced by the local farmers would be increasing. Within the nature in Indonesia and within fertile land, this is the inevitability for the local horticulture products to master the markets.
Anton – his familiar name continued that the optimism has something to do with the increasing production of the horticulture numbers. In 2019 the vegetable production increased 3% from it in 2018 within the production reaching 13.418.424 tons.
“The vegetable production was dominated by the onion reaching 1.580.243 tons, cabbage 1.407.903 tons, potato 1.314.654 tons, and cayenne pepper 1.374.215 tons,” h said, as in the official statement to Agricom.id
The fruit production nationally in 2019 increased 5% than it in 2018 within the production 22.517.638 tons.
“The fruit was dominated by banana reaching 7.280.659 tons, mango 2.808.936 tons, siem orange 2.444.516 tons, pineapple 2.196.456 tons, and durian 1.169.802 tons,” he said.
On the other hand, the ratio of the citizens of Indonesia compared to the fruit and vegetable demands is relatively small. World Health Organization (WHO) recommended that it needs to consume vegetable and fruit about 400 gram per capita per day.
“But the people of Indonesia consume 208,89 gram per capita per day for the vegetable and fruit. It consists of 119,79 gram of vegetable and 90,10 gram of fruit. So the consumption per capita per year is 43,12 per people.
While the fruit consumption is about 32,44 kg per capita per year (Central Bureau of Statistic, Susenas March 2019). “This is the challenge and chance,” the alumnus of Universitas Brawijaya said. (A2)
