Agricom.id, JAKARTA – Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) said that the food production is in good condition and in control in Indonesia. IN this year many provinces get the surplus production.

That is why ministry of agriculture develops the logistic system strategies nationally to simplify the supply chain and intervention of distribution.

One thing to do is by substituting the commodities from the surplus regions to the deficit ones. For now, at least, 28 provinces are in control. “But two provinces – North Kalimantan and Maluku need to notice,” he said, Monday (4/5/2020), as in the official written statement to Agricom.id.

The data of stock and food prediction which Badan Ketahanan Pangan (BKP), Ministry of Agriculture published, showed that some daily foods in April to June 2020 are enough and in good condition.

The rice by June 2020 would be 6,4  million tons, corn would be reaching 1,01 million tons, sugar would be 1,07 million tons, and cooking oil would be 5,7 million tons.

“The most important thing is the distribution should run well. Identify the regions for we have the maps. This is what President Jokowi told so that every one of us in the ministries cooperates to cover the deficit. It means that there is no lock-down, no isolation, no block to distribute the food,” he said.

Do not Pile the Foods at Home

Food and Agriculture Organization of The United Nations (FAO-UN) in the press release on Thursday (30/4/2020) said that the people should not pile the foods at home because the pandemic of corona virus (Covid-19) would indirectly influence the production.

Head Representative of FAO Indonesia, Stephen Rudgard in the written statement took the people to respect the food heroes, they are, the farmers, fishermen, breeders, and drivers who produced and transported the agriculture products to the markets.

“It is the time for us to pay attention one to another, respect them who are in the front liners in the pandemic. They produce our daily food in the hard times like this,” he said.

“Buy the food from the local store, respect the farmers, fishermen, and the breeders who produced food, shop wisely, and eat the healthy food,” he suggested.

Meanwhile the professor of Economy, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Muhammad Firdaus did appreciate what the government has done to arrange and manage the food distribution system.

“It needs to arrange and manage the distribution system well to minimize the price disparity among the regions,” he said.

The latest data stock and the prediction of food stock, he continued, are completely made.

“This is good for the public to know and be cool down,” he ended his words. (A2)
