Agricom.id, JAKARTA - Indonesia is famously known as the agrarian country within fertile areas and good sunshine. There are two seasons in Indonesia – the dry and rainy seasons which are good for the plantations. For its good natural resources, Indonesia is described as Gemah Ripah Loh Jinawi. For its fertile land, there is a song, "Tongkat, kayu, dan batu jadi tanaman".

As the agrarian country, in general the people may know if every region in Indonesia could produce in agriculture sector, namely paddy. But if it is asked, which region has the highest paddy production, few people might know it. This is simple question. But this is the important knowledge for the people, namely for the millennial generations.

General Director of Food Plantation, Ministry of Agriculture, Suwandi told that the data production in 2019 revealed that the result of kerangka sampling area from central bureau of statistic (KSA-CBS), there were 10 districts within highest rice production in 2019.

“The rice production numbers were using the conversion 57,3 percent of the paddy production. This is what CBS published. The increasing production in 10 districts was in cooperation among ministry of agriculture, regional governments, and other sides,” he said in Jakarta, Friday (19/6/2020), as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

The 10 districts in Indonesia as the highest rice producers in 2019 based on the CBS calculation within KSA, were:

1. District of Indramayu

District of Indramayu is in West Java Province, had paddy field for about 215,731 hectares. Of the numbers, the production reached 1.376.429,68 tons of dry grain or 789.657,71 tons of rice.

2. District of Karawang

The second was District of Kerawang in West Java province. Just like Cianjur, District of Karawang has the specific characteristic of rice that the people of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi like. The district had 185.807 hectares of paddy fields within the production 1.117.814 tons of dry grain or about 641,290 tons of rice.

3. District of Subang

The third is District of Subang in West Java Province. It lays on between District of Karawang and Indramayu. It has 156.298,50 hectares of paddy fields within the production 942.932 tons of dry grain, or about 540.960 tons of rice.

4. District of Banyuasin

District of Banyuasin is in South Sumatera Province. It succeeded to optimize the swamps to be productive paddy fields reaching 208,598 hectares. The production reached 905.846 tons of dry grain or about 519.684 tons of rice.

5. District of Lamongan

District of Lamongan is in East Java. It has overlay of paddy field and uses the modern technology. The paddy field reached 140.463,58 hectares within 839.724 tons of dry grain or about 481.750 tons of rice.

6. District of Ngawi

District of Ngawi is in East Java and had 122.500,97 hectares of paddy fields within the production reaching 777.190 tons of dry grain or about 445.874 tons of rice.

7. District of Bone

District of Bone is in South Sulawesi. It is the region producing the highest production in the province. It had 169.471,29 hectares of paddy fields within 772.874 tons of dry grain or about 443.398 tons of rice.

8. District of Grobogan

District of Grobogan is in Central Java Province. It had 136.209,59 hectares of paddy fields within 772.521 tons or dry grain or about 443.196 tons of rice. It is the highest rice producer in the province.

9. District of Sragen

District of Sragen is in Central Java Province, had 111.569,05 hectares of paddy fields within about 766.012 tons dry grain, or about 439.461 tons of rice.

10. District of Cilacap

District of Cilacap is also in Central Java Province and had 439.461,26 hectares of paddy fields within 699.965 tons of dry grain or about 401.570 tons of rice.

For information, the KSA – CBS noted that the production nationally in 2019 reached 31,31 million tons of rice and in the end of December 2019 there were rice surplus reaching 5,90 million tons.

“To increase the paddy production in the future, every region, based on what Minister of Agriculture told, ministry of agriculture is committed to help the farmers to produce by giving stimulants, such as, the seeds, fertilizers, tools, insurance, and kredit usaha rakyat,” he said.

“It is the time to accelerate the cultivation and planting. Plant paddy in the fields, dry land, or mineral swamp,” he told (A2)
