Ministry of Agriculture Would Do to Face the Impacts of Pandemic

Agricom.id, JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) claimed to have the anticipation to the impact of corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic for the enxt two years. He told that when attending Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Commission IV, Indonesian Legislators in Jakarta, Friday (10/7/2020).

"Dealing with agriculture is not about the weather but also the issues to come. We have prepared the programs,” he said, as in the official written statement to Agricom.id.

He thought that the programs in the ministry of agriculture are the same with what President Joko Widodo told which consistently sees the issues in our country.

But feeding 267 million citizens of Indonesia is not easy. He confessed that his side would not be able to do it alone. One thing for sure, there should be supports from every side and the stakeholders to develop the agriculture and realize the targets of five year - programs.

“My job is to help the interest of the poor people. Do not let them get worse,” he said.

But he also told that the food stocks nationally, namely the rice would be enough for the next two years. To maintain the rice stock, he claimed to have the good safe storages in many regions in Indonesia.

For information, there are five focuses of ministry of agriculture to accelerate the economic recovery and social reformation after Covid-19 pandemic.

The programs are the available access and qualified food consumption (specific program), the additional values for the competitiveness of industries (crossing program), research and innovation of knowledge and technology (crossing program), training education, training, and the management support.
