Agricom,id, JAKARTA – Heading to Eid al- Adha in the end of July 2020, ministry of agriculture confirmed that the main and strategic food stocks nationally are in control. Head of Badan Ketahanan Pangan (BKP), Ministry of Agriculture, Agung Hendriadi confirmed that in the coordination meeting heading to Eid al-Adha 2020 that the food task force did through video conference, Monday (20/7/2020) as in the official written statement to Agricom.id.
“Our main food needs nationally are in good condition and enough including those from import, such as, garlic, onion, cow meat are in control,” he said.
Based on the prognosis of food needs and availability in July - December 2020 that ministries and institutions have arranged, 11 main and strategic commodities are in good condition and could be surplus by the end of this year, such as, rice (surplus 7,1 million tons), onion reaching 26,86 thousand tons, garlic reaching 192,81 thousand tons, cow/buffalo meat reaching 242,36 thousand tons, cooking oil reaching 7,28 million tons, and sugar reaching 1,47 million tons.
"For the sugar, starting in July, there would be no more import because the many regions start producing,” he said.
He also said, though the food needs are in good condition, some provinces have increasing price of some commodities. It happens for the stocks get decreasing and the distribution is not as good as it in other regions.
Four provinces having the increasing price of products, such as, egg, hen meat, onion, cayenne pepper, are, North Maluku, North Kalimantan, Papua, and West Papua.
“The food task force needs to monitor the regions. We checked that the increasing price happens for the lack of stock,” he said.
His side also urged the food task force in many regions to monitor the price and stock in each region.
He told that his side would help the food distribution costs to the provinces. Until now BKP has helped the food distribution costs, such as, onion, curly chili, egg, and hen meat from the surplus regions to the deficit ones since January until now and they reached 484 tons. (A2)
