Agricom.id, JAKARTA – Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo encouraged that the buffalo and cow breeding in the domestic should have the good quality to become the animal food provider for the citizens of Indonesia. He thought that it is the right moment to mobilize every potential to develop the livestock nationally to become more effective and develop the economy.

“The breeding of calf gives us faith that the governor of South Sulawesi encouraged the good breeding and accelerated well,” he said when attending the calf breeding in District of Sinjai, South Sulawesi, Thursday (30/7/2020) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

Syahrul thought that for many years, the calves in District of Sinjai are famous of the good quality and could compete with the abroad. He also asked for the general director of livestock and animal’s health to help the industries.

For information, for about three and a half years (2017-2020), the government successfully did the artificial insemination of cow and buffalo for about 13.868.641 acceptors and gave birth for about 6.133.896 animals.

By 27 July 2020, the sapi kerbau komoditas andalan negeri (Sikomandan) program had done artificial insemination for about 2.318.136 acceptors, got pregnant about 1.359.094 animals, and gave birth for about 1.394.446 animals.

"By the success, the cow/buffalo population took a leap significantly in the last five years, reaching 3,37 million animals and the population reaches 18,82 million animals," he said.

Besides, ministry of agriculture also gave helps to encourage the livestock and animals’ health in the province, such as, 120 calves, 675 sheep/goats, 100 pigs, and 4.500 local hens.

"I do hope that the helps could encourage the livestock breeding in South Sulawesi and develop the people’s awareness to the animals’ nutrient and could be the spirit for us to realize the animals’ nutrient self-sufficient,” he said. (A2)
