Agricom.id, JAKARTA – When the economy of Indonesia gets decreasing because of corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic, the agriculture gross domestic product (GDP) positively increased up to 16,24 percent in the second quarter (Q to Q) of 2020.
In year on year (yoy), the agricultural sector keeps positively developed up to 2,19 percent. It increased the contribution to the economy nationally.
“If we see, the agricultural sector in the second quarter of 2019 reached 13,57 percent, but this second quarter of 2020, agricultural sector increased its GDP to be 15,46 percent," Head of Central Bureau of Statistic (CBS), Suhariyanto said in Jakarta, Wednesday (5/8/2020) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.
He thought that the increasing agricultural sector happened for the increasing food plantation harvest and development in the period.
For information the massive harvest usually takes place in February - March, but this year it happened in March – April and kept happening in May and which are the period of second quarter of II 2020.
"The forestry and log cut happened for the increasing operational in the forestry upstream sector to produce round wood by the food plantation industries,” he said.
He continued that the food plantation positively increased because of crude palm oil (CPO), coffee, sugarcane increasing production in some production regions. There were increasing exports to abroad for the CPO.
“Of big five sectors to economic progress, only the agriculture sector positively increase. The industry, trade construction, mining negatively developed,” he said
He did hope that in the future the other sectors could do what the agricultural sector has done in nowadays situation positively. (A2)
