Agricom.id, JAKARTA – The researcher of Lembaga Penyelidikan Ekonomi dan Masyarakat (LPEM), Universitas Indonesia (UI), Riyanto said that it is the time for Indonesia to focus developing the agricultural sector. He thought that this is the right thing to do according to the data from central bureau of statistic (CBS) that showed that the gross domestic product (GDP) in agricultural sector significantly increased.

"I knew it. If the agricultural sectors could be developed better, they could hire more workers. It is no question that the agriculture GDP increased," Riyanto said in Jakarta, Wednesday (5/8/2020) as in the official statement to Agricom.id.

He also thought that Indonesia has the human resources and natural resources which are comparative and competitive namely in the agricultural commodities. Indonesia is in the equator within ideal sunshine in every year. This is the good strategy to be advantaged in agricultural sector.

"Since many years ago, we are the maritime – agriculture country. If we want to be the industrial country, it needs to make agriculture industry or agro industries. It is better to develop the other industries to support agricultural sector. The service, telecommunication, and 4.0 industries should be led to the agriculture industry and agro industry,” he said.

He also hoped that the available infrastructure should be led to develop the agriculture infrastructure and the villages so that agricultural sector could be well advantaged and give the substance for the economy in Indonesia.

"We have fertile land. We have the wide ocean. Everything should make Indonesia to be the advance country in modern agriculture – base,” he mentioned.

For information, CBS mentioned that agricultural sector positively increased in the second quarter of 2020. The agricultural sector is the only sector highest increasing sector of other sectors in the period.

The increasing GDP in agricultural sector happened for the massive harvest alteration namely to paddy as the main food of the people. (A2)
