Agricom.id, JAKARTA – Minister of Agriculture, Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL), did virtual conference to discuss the better cooperation between Indonesia and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) that would have new form as the institution reformation of Consultative Group on International Research and Development (CGIAR) to be “One CGIAR” in the Agriculture War Room, Ministry of Agriculture, Wednesday (16/09/2020), as in the official statement to Agricom.id.
General Director of IRRI, Matthew Morrell joining the meeting told that the re-structurisation of “One CGIAR” should make each innovation spread faster in the bigger scale within the low cost and right on target.
“One CGIAR has one number of benefits that can bring strength to Indonesia’s agriculture sector, that include build agriculture system, not just point corporate time, but also to work forms direction agriculture and environment, also agriculture held up,” Matthew said.
Knowing this, SYL supported the reformation of the institution by hoping the good cooperation in the future to strengthen the food security.
“IRRI has contributed a lot to the agriculture in Indonesia. Our nation got many too. I thank you for this would be the hope for 273 million citizens who depend on the agriculture in Indonesia and of course, other countries in Asia. This is the need. IRRI and other components, the results of researches could be used in bigger ways in the future,” he told.
SYL also mentioned that the agriculture is the basic thing to support the economy of Indonesia as the biggest country in the Southeast Asia. When facing the institutional management reformation to be “One CGIAR”, he looks forward the real research results of IRRI.
“If IRRI would be joined or not, at least, it should make the better than what we have got along these days,” he said.
As the restucturisation result, CGIAR would only have one representative in Indonesia to be more efficient and there would be more efficient communication between Indonesia and CGIAR.
In the future, the Supervision Board of IRRI would make entity of rice research globally. IRRI would join with AfricaRice as the partners of IRRI in CGIAR Centre. The single entity should strengthen the capability of IRRI to facilitate the Triangular South-South Cooperation between Asia and Africa, increase the nutrients and food security globally, and give the new economic chances in the two regions.
For information, CGIAR is the institution gathering 15 research organizations whole over the world in agriculture and sustainable development. It is the internatioinal research and training organization within its head quarter in Los Banos, Laguna, Philippine to develop the paddy breeding. (A2)
